UPDATE: TPD Investigates Officer Involved Shooting
TEMPLE, TX (December 3, 2019) – The officer involved shooting which took place at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday resulted in one fatality, 28-year-old Micheal Dean.
The Texas Rangers will be leading an investigation, with the assistance of the Temple Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Bell County District Attorney's Office. Temple Police is also conducting and internal investigation. Texas Rangers involvement is standard in any Police Action Shooting involving TPD officers.
The single officer involved will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. This leave is standard practice in all police action shootings. The officer, who has been with TPD for nine years, was not injured in the incident.
No further information will be released at this time by Temple Police Department to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigative process. Further inquiries will be deferred to the Texas Rangers.
