TPD comments on preliminary autopsy results

TEMPLE, TX (Dec. 11, 2019) – The Temple Police Department has not received the preliminary autopsy report in the death of Michael Dean.

As Temple PD is not the lead investigative agency on this case, it is unknown when or if TPD will receive this report. However, it is reported that Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield has informed members of the media that the preliminary report indicates the cause of death for Micheal Dean was homicide.

TPD also has not received any inquiries asking to confirm the preliminary autopsy results.

The medical examiner’s report is part of the investigative process, which classifies causes of death as homicide, suicide, accidental or natural causes. The medical examiner's findings must identify as one of these four causes of death. The ruling of homicide is not a criminal charge.

Once the investigation is complete, facts from the medical examiner’s report and the Texas Rangers investigation will be submitted to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office to determine if a criminal offense occurred.
