Monday – Friday | 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

The Code Enforcement Department’s mission is to enforce State legislation and City ordinances that involve residential and business properties. In order to ensure healthy, vital neighborhoods, the department attempts to prevent or eliminate health safety or aesthetic problems like substandard housing, high grass/weeds, junk/debris and junk vehicles. Those four common violations are our primary focus to ensure that residents have the opportunity to live in a clean, safe, and healthy environment.  Alley.jpg

The City of Temple’s code of ordinances is investigated by citizen complaint and by pro-active Code Enforcement. The codes are implemented by the following procedure.
  1. The Code Enforcement Officer will investigate the citizen complaint and determine if there is a violation.
  2. In the event there is a violation, the Code Enforcement Officer will attempt to make contact with the owner and/or tenant through the United States Postal Service mail or on site notice. The owner/tenant will have 10 days from the date of the letter/on site notice (certain violations may have different time frame), to comply. The owner or tenant is encouraged to contact Code Enforcement with any question or concerns regarding the violation during the 10 days.
  3. If the violation has not been brought into compliance after the 10th day, the Code Enforcement Officer may file a citation through the courts. The fines for City ordinance violations are up to $2000 per day for each day the violation exists, with each day being a new violation. In addition to the possible fine, liens being placed against the property are also possibilities for properties that have repeated violations and/or abatement by the city has occurred.

It is not the intent of the City to issue citations, but to gain compliance with City codes for better health, welfare and harmony within the community.
