2008 Fire Bond Package

Fire Bond FAQs

Q: Why are the new facilities being proposed and if built where will they be located?

A: New facilities are being proposed as a measure to maintain and improve service levels and response times to all parts of our City as well as to address growth and development. Although exact locations have not yet been determined, Fire Station #1 will be in the Downtown Fire District, and Fire Station #8 will be in the Northwest quadrant of the City.

Q: Why is a new training center being proposed?

A: The Center will provide additional space for classroom and field-based training of the firefighters on current practices. National Standards require each firefighter to participate in 240 training hours annually. Space will also be utilized at the proposed facility for specialized training, which our firefighters currently obtain from other entities.

Q: Why are new fire engines being proposed?

A: Proposed Engine #8 will be located at the proposed Fire Station #8 facility. Current engines #1 and #4 have both reached the end of the recommended front line service life.

Q: What is an EOC?

A: An EOC is an emergency operations center for the City to manage all natural and man-made emergencies. The purpose is to protect life and property of the citizens.

Q: If the bond proposal is passed, what is it going to cost me?

A: About a penny and a half for every $100 valuation of your home. For example, if the taxable value of your home is $100,000, your taxes will reflect an approximate increase of $15 annually. Taxes for residents who are 65 years of age or older and who qualify for the over 65 tax cap will not be affected.
