Out is in at Temple Parks and Leisure Services This July

July is National Park and Recreation Month and parks and recreation agencies across the country are celebrating! In conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Temple Parks and Leisure Services would like everyone to go OUTside and get INvolved in their community. Throughout the entire month, Temple Parks and Leisure Services will feature unique programming, free concerts, special events and contests throughout our parks, pools and recreation facilities! A downloadable calendar of events can be obtained at www.templeparks.com.

“This year’s theme is “OUT IS IN” and encourages individuals, families, friends, and park-lovers to go outside, change their outlook and get involved in their community through parks and recreation,” said Kevin Beavers, Director of Temple Parks and Leisure Services. “Throughout July, we are offering some unique programming and interesting ways to go outside and enjoy the parks. We encourage everybody to check Temple Parks and Leisure’s website and Facebook page regularly to stay connected on the latest activities and events.”

Temple Parks and Leisure Services will celebrate Park and Recreation Month through 31 days of fun! Unique outdoor activities such as the Hot 2 Trot 5k race, discounts at local swimming pools, free events including popsicles in the park, H-E-B All American Family Fun Festival on July 4th, Hot Summer Sounds Free Music Series, Movies in the Park, etc., will help keep you “out” this summer. Parks and Recreation Month will culminate with a free concert at the Sam Farrow Amphitheater in Lions Park (4320 Lions Park Rd.) on Thursday, July 31st featuring the band, The Debonaires.

Park visitors can also show how “Out is In” through an online photo contest. “We want people to spend some extra time at their favorite park, trail, pool or recreation center this month and show us why they love them by submitting to our photo contest. All participants need to do is tag their favorite park photos with #TempleParks on their Instagram account,” said Jonathan Logue, Marketing Coordinator for Temple Parks and Leisure Services. “All of the entries will be posted on www.templeparks.com and we will announce the winners in August.”

NRPA is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing park, recreation and conservation efforts that enhance quality of life for all people.
