Annual Movies in the Park Series Kicks Off May 24th

The Temple Parks Foundation’s Movies in the Park series will officially kick off at sundown on Saturday, May 24th at West Temple Park (121 Montpark Rd.) featuring the DreamWorks animated film, How to Train Your Dragon, sponsored by Sam’s Club in Temple.

“This is a great family friendly evening full of games, activities, and an entertaining movie for both children and adults,” said Temple Parks Foundation Member, Jason Culp. Pre-movie activities begin at 6:30 p.m. with the movie starting at sunset. Movies in the Park is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Saturday’s film, How to Train Your Dragon, is a tale of a hapless Viking who aspires to become a dragon slayer, but becomes the unlikely friend of a young dragon and learns there may be more to the creatures than he assumed. How to Train Your Dragon is a computer animated film, featuring voices of: Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel and many more. The film is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America for intense action and some scary images and brief mild language.

The movie will be projected on a 30 x 17 foot high definition screen featuring a sound system that rivals any indoor movie theater experience. The screen and presentation of the movie are provided by Grand Avenue Theater in Belton.

“Movies in the Park has become a night that Temple families look forward to every summer,” said Kevin Beavers, Temple Parks and Leisure Services Interim Director. And, we are pleased that the Temple Parks Foundation is again producing the event – something they have done since 2006”.

Other movies shown during the series will include: Princess Bride on June 15 at Miller Park (1919 N. 1st Street) sponsored by McLane’s Children’s Hospital and Despicable Me 2 on July 5 at Lions Park (4320 Lions Park Rd.) sponsored by H-E-B.
