Go "Working on the Railroad" at the Railroad & Heritage Museum's Family Fun Day

Want to know what goes on behind the scenes to keep the railroads running? Here’s your chance to find out! The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum is hosting a free “Working on the Railroad” Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 7th from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. You will get the chance to see some of the things that go into keeping the railroad on track and on time, from tools and machinery, to the folks who actually work on the railroad! Visitors will also have the chance to ride the museum’s barrel train and kid-friendly handcars.

Author and retired railroad worker, Terry Beck, will be on hand to chat with visitors about his nearly 40 years working for the Santa Fe Railroad and to sign his book, “A Gathering of Words – A Train of Thought.” His book captures memories of an earlier time on the glorious Santa Fe. Besides his own exploits and lessons, the book is filled with recollections of some of the rich and colorful characters he encountered, and includes tributes to beloved mentors and colleagues.

The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum hosts a free Family Fun Day event on the first Saturday of each month. Attendance to the event is free. Regular admission charges apply to view the rest of the museum. The museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot at 315 West Avenue B in downtown Temple. The museum is open 10am – 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday.
