Hot Summer Sounds Turns Totally Awesome With 80's Night Concert

Electric slide back into the 80’s at this week’s Hot Summer Sounds free concert presented by the Scott & White Health Plan. Break out your parachute pants, shoulder pads and neon sunglasses this Friday night, May 30th, in Miller Park (1919 North 1st Street) from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. for a totally awesome 80’s costume contest and throwback concert featuring Detroit Steel.

Detroit Steel, Austin’s premier party band, will headline the first performance of the summer concert series covering hits from the 1980’s. Voted Top 10 Cover Band by the Austin Chronicle Reader’s Poll, the band is comprised of a Grammy Nominee and members with over 15 years of live performance experience each.

“We are thrilled the concert series is back for another year and hope you will join us at Miller Park this Friday evening”, said Holly Leiferman, Parks and Leisure Services Special Events Coordinator. “In addition to the concert, we will be hosting an 80’s themed costume contest. First place wins $100, second place wins $50 and third place will take home $25! So dive deep into your closet and dig out your jellies and jean jackets.”

Leiferman also added, “Be sure to bring your friends and family, lawn chairs and snacks and sing along with Detroit Steel as they perform some of the best cover songs from Bon Jovi, Journey and Michael Jackson. We will be sure to start your weekend off right.”

Hot Summer Sounds is free and open to the public. Five hundred to one thousand people are estimated to attend each concert. Concerts are held every Friday night at 7:30 p.m. from May 30th – July 25th.
