Temple Prepares For War This Weekend

Temple is ready for battle this weekend at the 6th Annual Battle of Temple Junction Civil War Reenactment taking place at the Texas Early Day Tractor and Engine Association Show Grounds (1717 Eberhardt Road) on May 17th and 18th.

Although a fictitious battle, The Battle of Temple Junction illustrates how Union and Confederate troops lived, trained and fought during the Civil War. Throughout the weekend, guests will be able to experience reenactments of infantry and artillery units in battle scenarios, walk through Union and Confederate camps and learn about the daily life of Civil War soldiers. Full-scale battle reenactments showcasing period and reproduction weapons, uniforms and gear, military surgery demonstrations and cavalry competitions will take place each day. Civil War era entertainment, games and food vendors will also be onsite.

“We want everybody to enjoy a weekend full of history and excitement” said Holly Leiferman, Temple Parks and Leisure Services Special Events Coordinator. “This is a perfect event for families to experience history up close and learn what life was really like during the Civil War from professional re-enactors from all over the state of Texas.”

Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 & under. Tickets can be purchased online at www.battleoftemplejunction.com or at the gate. Adult tickets purchased online will receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
