Public Input Sought for Temple Parks Master Plan Development

Temple Parks and Leisure Services is requesting the community’s feedback for the Temple Parks Master Plan. The Master Plan, currently under development by Halff Associates, Inc. and Temple Parks and Leisure Services staff, defines the vision, sets priorities and acts as a guide for how the City will update and develop its park system in the years to come.

The Department will host two public forums on Tuesday, May 20th and is encouraging all citizens to attend to provide input for how they would like Temple’s parks developed and what amenities they would like to see added in the future. The Open House will allow residents of Temple to preview preliminary recommendations for improvements to parks, trails and recreation facilities throughout the City. A series of illustration boards, as well as a formal presentation, will provide information on the planning process and on key park needs in the City today. Recommendations address all parts of the City's park system, including renovating existing parks, improving athletic facilities, enhancing indoor recreation needs, providing new aquatic facilities and pools, developing trails and preserving key open space areas throughout the City.

The master plan, once completed in the fall of 2014, will help the City set priorities for parks and recreational facilities and programming for the next 5-10 years. These kinds of plans are critical as the City strives to improve the quality of life in Temple.

This open house is a great opportunity for Temple residents to comment on what parks and recreation facilities they would like to see in our city. Parks and Leisure Services Interim Director, Kevin Beavers stated, “We hope many of our citizens will attend these meetings to share their hopes, ideas and opinions on how they would like their parks to look like over the next few years. It is very important for us to know what amenities are needed and what we can do to try to deliver on those requests.”
