Temple Symphony Orchestra Presents For Love of Country

Saturday, January 26

An evening of compositions celebrating America, her citizens and her military! Works by John Sousa, Aaron Copland, John Williams and others.

The Temple Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tom Fairlie will present  a "FOR LOVE OF COUNTRY" pops concert at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday January 26 at the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center at Temple College.  The concert is sponsored by The Carpenter Foundation and Panda Power Fund.


The concert will open with "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copeland who has been called "the Dean of modern American music".  This will be followed by " Ashokan Farewell " by Jay Unger in an arrangement by Stephen Taylor.    "A Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copeland will be the next selection.   Copeland stated that the letters and speeches of Lincoln supplied the text for this composition. The last number before intermission will be a composition by John Williams "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan. 


The second half of the concert will feature a "George M. Cohan Salute" arranged  by Herrman followed by "Bugler"s Holiday" by Leroy Anderson, and "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin.  The audience will be invited to participate by singing the next number  "Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe.  "Stars and Stripes Forever"  by John Philip Sousa, "Armed Forces Salute" by Joyce Eilers and American the Beautiful" will complete the concert.


Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students with ID,  Active military and their family members with ID are admitted free.  Children under the age of 6 years are not admitted to the auditorium.  Tickets are available at H-E-B; The Band Room in Copperas Cove, Harker Heights and Belton; Discover Natural Foods in Temple, the Temple College Fine Arts Department, from templesymphony.org, templesymphony@gmail.com and from Frontgate.
