Tarock is a trick taking card game. The basic rules first appeared in the manuscript of Martiano da Tortona, written before 1425. Tarock, recorded as one of the oldest types of card games known, is extensively played in Austria and throughout Europe. The deck consists of 56 numeral cards of four suits and 22 emblematic cards called trumps.
Tarock champion Jimmy Coufal brings his expertise to the Tarock table. Last November the museum was delighted to have him give lessons on the European card game to a crowd of beginners. It was so well received that we have asked him to come back and teach us more about the game. Those in attendance have asked us about having a regular session each month and here is your chance to learn more.
Each session is designed for all skill levels from beginners to proficient. As Jimmy says, “the best way to learn is to have a skilled person show you the ropes.” So come on down to the Czech Heritage Museum and enjoy some inexpensive entertainment. It’s a great social game. It’s free and open to everyone.
