Police Academy Training
The Temple Police Academy is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and abides by its rules. Our mission is to provide law enforcement related training to Academy Cadets, Licensed Texas Police Officers and Civilian Staff. The Academy is governed by the Temple Police Department chief of police through the Academy Advisory Board which consists of law enforcement and public members as required by TCOLE Rule 217.7.
StaffThe Temple Police Academy is staffed with 2 full time officers and supported by personnel within the Temple Police Department who are licensed TCOLE instructors with a variety of specialties in law enforcement.

Basic Peace Officer's Course
The Temple Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). The academy is authorized to conduct course number 1000643, the Basic Peace Officer's Course, for individuals to obtain a Texas Peace Officer's license. The academy hosts 2 courses a year, which normally begin in October and April. The hours of operation for the academy are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Licensed Peace Officer Continuing EducationThe Temple Police Academy offers continuing education training which may be open to currently licensed peace officers or other law enforcement related personnel. These offerings will be posted as soon as possible so attendees can plan and arrange to attend.
Police Academy Calendar
The Temple Police Academy will post training as soon as practical. Although most announcements will be in advance as possible, a quarterly calendar will be used to announce training within that period.
Basic Peace Officer Course: Class 2017A will begin April 10, 2017.
Continuing Education: There are no trainings being offered at this time.
All prospective attendees of any Temple Police Academy training must be in good standing with their respective agencies. All Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensed individuals must be in good standing. Generally, Temple Police Academy trainings will be open to licensed peace officers, jailers, tele-communicators, elected officials, and civilian law enforcement employees. Classes that are for law enforcement only will be specified as, “Law Enforcement Only”. Classes which are solely for Temple Police Department personnel will be announced as, “TPD Only”. Classes that require certain qualifications or requisites will have those requirements listed with the training announcement. Individuals are not considered enrolled until a confirmation is given by the Temple Police Academy.
Applicants for the Temple Police Academy’s Basic Peace Officer Course must be hired by a Texas law enforcement agency or have a letter of sponsorship from a Texas law enforcement agency. Individuals must meet TCOLE minimum requirements for licensing as a Texas peace officer under TCOLE Rule 217.1. An individual is not considered enrolled until all Temple Police Academy and TCOLE requirements have been met, and confirmation has been given to the respective sponsoring agency by the Texas Police Academy.
